This National Guard position is for a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER (TITLE 5), Position Description Number NGT6307000 and is part of the TN 134th ARW, Air National Guard.

Duties
As a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER, GS-0081-09, you will serve as the Station Chief, provides immediate oversight and direction of day-to-day operations at a fire station for an assigned shift. Directs the operation of firefighting vehicles such as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and crash-rescue trucks. Directs crew(s) to the scene of the fire following a predetermined route or selecting an alternate when necessary. Supervises the performance of crash-rescue and firefighting duties at airfields handling complex aircraft (e.g. fighters, bombers, cargo, passenger). Supervises the performance of structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities which may include research and/or large industrial complexes; hazardous materials (HAZMAT) containment and control duties; and/or Basic Life Support duties. Supervises the rescue of personnel and immediate first aid measures to alleviate further injury and prepare the victim(s) for transport to a medical facility. Supervises the maintenance of firefighting equipment and fire station facilities. Complies with health, safety, security, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.
Requirements

- Applicant must complete a Baseline Pre-Placement Screening for General Schedule positions within 30 days of appointment.
- Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate Tricare Reserve Select eligibility.
- For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
- The incumbent of this position must be certified by the DOD Firefighter Certification system.
- This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration.
- This is a Testing Designated Position. The employee is subject to random drug testing.
- The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required.
Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Work experience or military service that demonstrated the ability to follow directions and to read, understand, and retain a variety of instructions, regulations, and procedures and that otherwise demonstrates the ability to perform or learn to perform the duties of the position.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must 24 months or 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-09), in the Federal service in the normal line of progression for the occupation. Experience that demonstrated the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Such duties may include (1) controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; (2) rescue operations; (3) detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards; (4) operation of fire communications equipment; (5) controlling hazardous materials incidents and/or (6) developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention. Experience in managing the function of the work to be performed; and, experience which includes leading, directing and assigning work of personnel.
Certifications: Must be certified by the DoD Firefighter Certification system as Fire Officer II (includes Fire Officer I), Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Airport Firefighter (includes Firefighter I and II), and HAZMAT Incident Commander (includes HAZMAT
Awareness and HAZMAT Operations).
