This National Guard position is for a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER (TITLE 5), Position Description Number NGT6307000 and is part of the TN 134th ARW, Air National Guard.

Duties
As a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER, GS-0081-09, you will serve as the Station Chief, provides immediate oversight and direction of day-to-day operations at a fire station for an assigned shift. Directs the operation of firefighting vehicles such as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and crash-rescue trucks. Directs crew(s) to the scene of the fire following a predetermined route or selecting an alternate when necessary. Supervises the performance of crash-rescue and firefighting duties at airfields handling complex aircraft (e.g. fighters, bombers, cargo, passenger). Supervises the performance of structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities which may include research and/or large industrial complexes; hazardous materials (HAZMAT) containment and control duties; and/or Basic Life Support duties. Supervises the rescue of personnel and immediate first aid measures to alleviate further injury and prepare the victim(s) for transport to a medical facility. Supervises the maintenance of firefighting equipment and fire station facilities. Complies with health, safety, security, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.

- Applicant must complete a Baseline Pre-Placement Screening for General Schedule positions within 30 days of appointment.
- Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate Tricare Reserve Select eligibility.
- For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
- The incumbent of this position must be certified by the DOD Firefighter Certification system. The International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Pro Board.
- This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration.
- This is a Testing Designated Position. The employee is subject to random drug testing.
- The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required.
Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Work experience or military service that demonstrated the ability to follow directions and to read, understand, and retain a variety of instructions, regulations, and procedures and that otherwise demonstrates the ability to perform or learn to perform the duties of the position.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 24 months experience, education, or training in one or more of the following areas: (1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade. (2) Rescue operations. (3) Detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards. (4) Operation of fire communications equipment. (5) Controlling hazardous materials incidents. (6) Developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention (7) Firefighting and fire prevention theory and techniques; (8) Fixed and mobile firefighting equipment operation. (9) Planning, directing, or carrying out fire protection and prevention programs and operations and/or (10) Performing emergency medical services.
Employee is required to be certified by the DoD Firefighter Certification System, the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Pro Board.

3 Italicized OPM position title indicates the prerequisite DoD certification(s) required for advancement to the certification level of the OPM position in accordance with the DoD F&ESCP Procedural Guide.
4 DoD Components:
Will determine appropriate certification levels for Fire Protection Specialists for Type A positions.
Will determine EMS certifications requirements for non-operational positions (i.e., CPR, emergency medical responder (EMR), or EMT). May expand certifications levels for fire prevention chief officer and fire protection specialist positions.
5 Personnel "bumping up" to fulfill a higher certification level position must possess the same certification level (e.g., a station captain must possess Assistant Chief for Operations certification to fulfill the position).
Mandatory Required Experience:
1. 2 years experience operating in a combination department with Title 5, Air National Guard and State of Tennessee employees.
2. Experience operating at a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) controlled Index C airport with Air Force, Army, Commercial Carrier, private aviation, and corporately owned aircraft.
3. Experience performing duties associated with the Automated Civil Engineer - Fire Department (ACES-FD) Fire Emergency Services Information Management System (FES IMS), such as dispatching responders, creating daily and emergency log entries, scheduling personnel, issuing welding permits, and scheduling and validating training.
4. Experience driving and operating the following fire apparatus: P-23 (UHP), P-34 (UHP), P-19, P-22, P-26, and P-30.
5. Experience receiving, interpreting, and dispatching emergency responders to alarms received on a Simplex TrueSite Fire Alarm Receiving Work Station.
