Duties
Selections will be made across mission areas within Corporate Communications. Duties and responsibilities for each position may be different from those listed below.
Designs multi-media communication tools and help in the designing of logos, briefing templates and branding. Oversees organizational communication design and support (e.g., ePortal, public website, webinars, and videos).
Review and edit content for accuracy, clarity and consistency. Collaborate with writers to improve content and readability and ensure all written material adheres to the AP Style Guide.
Strategize with and educate the management team and others across the agency on incorporating relevant multi-media and communications techniques into the agency culture and into all of the agency’s products and services.
Initiates and prepares responses to inquiries from interested groups, the general public and organizational personnel concerning policies and activities of the Center.
Prepares news releases and feature articles for publication reporting on the Center's activities, programs, technical progress, agency and employees' achievements.
Serve as Editor for the Center's regular news bulletin or other Center publications utilizing the latest technology for desktop publishing, layout and design of publications, brochures, etc.
Coordinate multi-media activities by actively engaging in consumer and industry conferences, blogs, video sharing, online chats, wikis, etc., to promote DFAS messaging and increase brand awareness resulting in driving brand traffic to the site.

Qualifications
One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-9) within the federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-9 if outside the Federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
Specialized experience at the GS-9 grade level is defined as: applying advanced communication and analytical practices, methods, and techniques to resolve complex public affairs problems such as how to improve communications with the general public, employees and/or specialized groups about programs, policies, and practices; and tracking and evaluating communication effectiveness. Examples of qualifying specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level include creating strategic improvement and communication plans; developing strategies for multi-media and communications projects and technologies; advising others, including other specialists and management, on effective communication and storytelling techniques.
Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-9 or higher grade in Federal Service.

Education
GS-11 Substitution of Education for Experience: Three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed higher-level graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
