You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the Commander Navy Region of NAS JRB NEW ORLEANS.

Duties

You will serve as a safety consultant, advising management and workers on safety requirements and potential accident causing situations and preventing accidents. You will schedule and perform periodic surveys and inspections to evaluate the effectiveness of safety requirements and practices in the work environment. You will investigate mishaps and obtain statements from witnesses, photograph mishap scenes, and records circumstances or mishap and extent of injuries. You will review plans and specifications for new constructions, building alterations, and/or changes in installation equipment to ensure compliance with safety codes and standards.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a annual physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: 1) Analyzing data on work operations, mishaps, and safety practices to prepare reports of findings that propose corrective measures for unsafe conditions and hazardous work practices; 2) Investigating mishaps, hazard reports, and unsafe or unhealthful working conditions to protect personnel and property; 3 Advising personnel of safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazardous operating processes; and 4) Conducting safety and occupational health inspections and surveys to evaluate effectiveness of unit safety program. **NOTE: This information must be fully supported in your resume to be considered for the position. Education

Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

OR

Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

OR
