You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH OFFICE of NAS JRB NEW ORLEANS.

Duties

You will serve as a safety consultant, advising management and workers on safety requirements and potential accident causing situations and preventing accidents. You will schedule and perform periodic surveys and inspections to evaluate the effectiveness of safety requirements and practices in the work environment. You will investigate mishaps and obtain statements from witnesses, photograph mishap scenes, and records circumstances or mishap and extent of injuries. You will review plans and specifications for new constructions, building alterations, and/or changes in installation equipment to ensure compliance with safety codes and standards.

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector 1) Inspecting the work environment for hazardous operational conditions; 2) Identifying the origin, cause and contributing elements of mishaps and hazardous conditions occurring in the work environment; 3) Presenting safety and mishap prevention training to employees; 4) Advising workers on safety requirements, potential accident causing situations and methods for preventing accidents. EDUCATION/TRAINING SUBSTITUTION FOR GENERAL/SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

OR

Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

OR
