This position supports Prosthetic Service at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System, providing comprehensive treatment of medical, surgical and long-term care patients. The VA Medical Center has an active outpatient treatment program, including several Community Based Outpatient Clinics. The facility includes Amputee Clinic, Polytrauma Center, Low Vision/BROS/Victor Program, and Surgical Implants including Prosthetic, Biologicals and Cochlear implants.
Duties
Major Duties:
Ascertains nature of requests and directs callers to appropriate staff.
Communicates and treats customers (Veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
Maintains contact with medical and clerical staff in various clinics and works to resolve delays and misunderstanding in the Prosthetic aspect of providing services.
Maintaining prosthetic electronic records, ensuring all equipment and supplies are posted, and answering phone inquiries regarding eligibility/entitlement and services provided.
Files materials such as catalogs, binders, etc.
Performs clerical duties related to patient care and treatment such as coordinating or recording patient activities.
Adapt to cover new and unusual work situations as they occur, dependent on the nature of the received item(s).
Uses judgment in interpreting and adapting guidelines such as agency policies, regulations, precedents, and work directions for application to specific cases or problems.
Resolves problems/issues where there is not one correct solution, only a best or most appropriate one to ensure the Veteran gets his/her medical needs addressed in a timely manner.
Provide, receive or develop information in order to identify problems and coordinate efforts to resolve discrepancies or problems.
Identifies issues or problems and seeks alternative solutions consistent with applicable regulations.
Seek ways to expedite patient processing, accomplish the VA mission.
Maintain working knowledge regarding an extensive body of rules, policies, procedures or operations and utilizes that knowledge to independently complete work.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/19/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS 06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS 05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS 05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, Serving as an expert source of information on processing transactions, knowledge of policy and regulatory requirements regarding an extensive body of rules, policies, procedures or operations and utilizes that knowledge to independently complete work; knowledge of medical terminology; Knowledge of all prosthetic items and programs is required to successfully perform the position. Knowledge of equipment function and mechanics to assist patients with equipment needs.

Physical Requirements: Most of the work is non-sedentary. There is considerable walking; standing; bending; carrying/lifting of items up to 25 lbs. such as equipment and supplies provided to beneficiaries. Incumbent must be able to move equipment, such as boxed wheelchairs on
occasion. Some work is sedentary to record patients' records, respond to e-mails, etc.
