This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), within the Personnel Security Division. As a Personnel Security Specialist (Adjudicator), you will be responsible for the review/adjudication of Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and BEP investigations (BI's, SSBI's, MRI's, NAC's and NACI's) and at times, Suitability Investigations (SI's) to determine suitability for employment, continued employment and access to the Bureau and/or it's products/processes.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-12. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As a Personnel Security Specialist (Adjudicator), you will:
Review and recommend to the supervisor or higher level specialist, adjudicative action on Personnel Security Investigations, including portions of investigations conducted by other investigative agencies.
Identify missing documents, coverage, records, locate files and handle a myriad of essential support functions to ensure prompt action.
Review preliminary fact finding and where information reflects fraud of falsification, will recommend action as appropriate.
Be expected to be familiar with OPM, Main Treasury, BEP policies, and regulations pertaining to suitability issues.
Evaluate evidence for credibility, relevancy and sufficiency.
Review physical evidence collected; detect discrepancies in the information reviewed; distinguish between relevant and irrelevant information and evidence.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience for the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Analyzing results of investigative findings and applying established security criteria in order to make adjudicative determinations; AND
- Writing actionable adjudicative summary reports that included findings that required additional investigation.
Specialized Experience for the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes experience:
- Analyzing results of investigative findings and applying established security criteria in order to make adjudicative determinations; AND
- Writing non-actionable adjudicative summary reports.
OR
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, if related.or3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, if related.orLL.M., if related.
OR
You may qualify on a combination of education and experience.
To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.
Specialized Experience for the GS-9, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes experience:
- Gathering background information from contractors, current employees, or new hires to be utilized by others for adjudicative determinations.
OR
Master's or equivalent graduate degree, if related.or2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, if related.orLL.B. or J.D., if related.
OR
You may qualify on a combination of education and experience. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.

In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-12, you must have been at the GS-11 level for 52 weeks.
For the GS-11, you must have been at the GS-9 level for 52 weeks.
For the GS-9, you must have been at the GS-7 level for 52 weeks.
