This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing, within the Security and Investigations Division. As a Security Specialist, you will conduct security surveys and inspections, maintain tracking systems, participate as a team member with complex security surveys and investigations involving all aspects of product related fraud, including those involved in automated systems, within the Bureau and at contractor facilities.
Duties
As a Security Specialist, you will:
- Maintain automated systems and programs to assist in the currency accountability, investigative, and administrative functions of the Division and the Office of Security.
- Provide the Branch Head and Senior Security Specialists with technical information gathered through the process of investigations, surveys, and inspections of the securities manufacturing process.
- Conduct product security surveys and inspections within the BEP and contractor facilities to determine the security posture and the adequacy of the accountability and control procedures for Bureau securities.
- Perform inquiries of suspicious product related discrepancies to determine whether they are the result of criminal activity, work related errors, or intentional acts by Bureau employees to disrupt the production process.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience for the GS-11: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Experience independently performing security work involving the application of security programs, data tracking systems and policies in order to safeguard personnel, facilities, materials, and documents.
Examples of such experience could include:
- Conducting security surveys, audits, probes, project reviews to identify work-related errors or security issues; OR
- Safeguarding and handling sensitive records, reports, materials, and securities; OR
- Assisting in determining whether established security policies and procedures are adequate and up to date, and recommending improvements when necessary; OR
- Drafting reports that include conclusions and recommendations.
OR
You may qualify with a Ph. D. or equivalent graduate degree
OR
3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.
OR
LL.M., if related.
OR
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.
Specialized Experience for the GS-9: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Experience assisting performing security work involving the application of security programs, data tracking systems and policies in order to safeguard personnel, facilities, materials, and documents.
Examples of such experience could include:
- Assisting with conducting security surveys, audits, probes, project reviews to identify work-related errors or security issues; OR
- Safeguarding and handling sensitive records, reports, materials, and securities; OR
- Assisting in determining whether established security policies and procedures are adequate and up to date and recommending improvements when necessary.
OR
You may qualify with a master's or equivalent graduate degree
OR
2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.
OR
L.L.B. or J.D., if related.
OR
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.
Specialized Experience for the GS-7: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Experience with security policies, procedures, processes and data tracking systems; AND
- Experience assisting with security related investigations or reports.
Examples of such experience could include:
- Safeguarding and handling sensitive records, reports, materials, and securities; OR
- Experience receiving and /or conveying technical security related information.
OR
1 full year of graduate level education or a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement.
OR
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.
Education
