The mission of the organization is to coordinate the Department's efforts in carrying out its core mission of combating terrorism and protecting national security. NSD is responsible for supervising the enforcement of all federal criminal laws related to counterterrorism and counterespionage, except those specifically assigned to other divisions.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide Information Security, Physical Security, Personnel Security, and Communications Security for multiple NSD and multiple DOJ agency facilities as well as to provide leadership in the implementation of specific program discipline initiatives.
A Security Specialist, at full performance level, will perform duties such as but not limited to:
Performing Subject Matter Expert (SME) duties in physical security
Recommending new or revised policy standards, or procedures to meet changing conditions or correct deficiencies in the programs or functions.
Consulting with an coordinate's actions with other local and Federal law enforcement agencies and property management personnel.
Determine security clearance for employees, contractors, interns and volunteers utilizing agency and Office of Personnel Security.
Review and evaluates background investigation reports to determine security eligibility of individuals for access to sensitive information, material, resources or work areas.
Performing personal identification verification (PIV) card enrollment and activation.
Requirements
- You must be a United States Citizen or National.
- You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check which includes a drug screening.
- You may be required to complete a one-year probationary or two-year trial period.
- Selective Service registration is required for males born on, or after, December 31st 1959. Those not registered should have an approved exemption on file.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of Security Specialist at (GS-0080-11/12/13), you must possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade you're applying to.
If you are a current or former government employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade. Additionally, please ensure to submit an applicable SF50 (please refer to the "required documents" section for additional information).
To Qualify for the Security Specialist GS-0080-11, your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector assisting in planning and implementing physical security procedures and protective methods OR assessing the effectiveness of existing physical security practices, procedures and interprets risk assessments; OR possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree,3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.M., if related.
To Qualify for the Security Specialist GS-0080-12, your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector planning and implementing security procedures and protective methods OR evaluating the effectiveness of existing security practices, procedures and interprets risk assessments.
To Qualify for the Security Specialist GS-0080-13, your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector recommending corrective actions to shortfalls within the physical security field OR conducting multifunction security evaluations to ensure regulatory compliance.
