About the Position: This position is in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Employees occupying DCIPS positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at the Strategic Systems Support Element (SSSE) HQ's Element, Alexandria, Virginia.
Duties
Provide clinical supervision, guidance and oversight to a behavioral health clinical team consisting of multiple providers at separate locations.
Serve as the unit’s suicide prevention liaison to higher headquarters, working with unit providers to implement and maintain sound suicide prevention programs and practices.
Develop and improve assessment methodologies both for psychologists and other evaluators.
Advise commanders and other leaders on psychological factors associated with stressful training.
Evaluate, diagnose, and treat a broad range of psychological and emotional problems.
Conduct psychological evaluations as part of the unit’s hiring process.
Serve as a psychological subject matter expert and consultant to senior military leaders.
Apply psychological principles such as learning theory, personality theory, forensic psychology, applied psychology, social psychology, and cultural awareness to highly complex problems.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
- In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
- Possess or be able to obtain and meet requirements of a TS/SCI security clearance based on an SBI.
- Must pass the organization’s Personnel Reliability Program which included credit check, drug screening, polygraph, and psychological evaluation.
- Must sign a statement attesting to the understanding of DCIPS provisions as indicated in AR 690-13.
- Must be willing and able to participate in organization operations and training, CONUS and OCONUS.
- Hold a current state license to practice clinical psychology.
- Meet service requirements for independent practice and maintain current credentials with a sanctioned DOD medical authority.
- Possess demonstrated public speaking skills.
- A professional background that includes operational psychology experience.
- Must be willing to participate in stressful, physically demanding training.
- Travel may be required up to 25% of the time.
- Periodically may be required to work overtime or irregular hours.

Basic Requirement for Clinical Psychologist:
Degree: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience which includes but not limited to providing clinical and organization/administrative supervision, psychological counseling, training, assessments, and developing programs to improve the organization.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GG/GS-14)
