About the Position: This position is assigned to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy (DASD (MC&FP), Assistant Secretary of Defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs (M&RA), Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Personnel and Readiness (USD (P&R)).

Duties

Evaluate and analyze a broad range of data, research, programs, and metrics addressing the needs and challenges of service members and their families. Research and coordinate resolution of complex time-essential actions relating to the Military Community Advocacy policy areas. Collect, verify, and adjust data from diverse sources and performs statistical analysis, manually as well as through automated systems. Serve as a consultant to data system developers for the purpose of identifying, establishing, and implementing system requirements. Develop resulting changes to policy and strategies supporting implementation of all recommended actions resulting from analysis of data, research, metrics, and trends. Coordinate the review, prioritization, and analysis of recurring metric requirements. Review, research, and benchmark emerging trends within the areas of family violence and harmful behaviors between children and youth.

Combination of Education and Experience: Courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance. Basic Requirement for Sociologist: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in sociology; or social psychology or political science that included at least 24 semester hours in sociology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in sociology (i.e. at least 24 semester hours), plus appropriate experience or additional education. Basic Requirement for Psychologist: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) with a major or equivalent in psychology. In addition to meeting at least one of the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience for GS 13: One year of specialized experience which includes analyzing data using statistical software; evaluating the effectiveness of research, data, or metrics; and recommending solutions based on the analysis of data, research, or metrics. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Specialized Experience for GS 14: One year of specialized experience which includes analyzing data using statistical software; evaluating the effectiveness of research, data, or metrics; researching complex problems based on the analysis of data; and recommending solutions based on the analysis of data, research, or metrics. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
