The position is located in the Office of the Clinical Director (OCD), Intramural Research Program (IRP), National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) and the Diabetes Endocrinology and Obesity Branch (DEOB), National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney (NIDDK), National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Duties

Manage several protocols simultaneously and handles a variety of study participants. Serve as the subject matter expert regarding filing and reporting requirements pertaining to the conduct of clinical research. Creatively solve clinical trial problems involving logistics, manpower, and study execution; appropriately identifies areas that need to be managed by the principal investigator (PI) or other persons within the health care team. Collect data from all relevant sources on patient reactions to therapy, treatment schedules, and changes in clinical and laboratory parameters using accepted templates or models. Responsible for the data integrity on all research subjects in order to satisfy regulatory and quality control standards. Design and use appropriate methods to collect, enter, and analyze data generated from clinical protocols including protocol termination or death dates.

Qualifications

In order to meet the Basic Qualification Requirements for a Nurse Specialist (Research), GS-0610, you must: A. have a graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. Note: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools; AND B. passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN); AND C. possess a current, active, full and unrestricted license, or registration as a professional nurse from a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition, to qualify for a Nurse Specialist (Research) position at the GS-13 level, you must have at least 1 year of experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: planning, designing, and developing clinical research protocols. providing specialized nursing care to patients in research environment; participating in clinical trials by implementing, coordinating complex treatment and research plans; providing patient and family education and counseling; and evaluating trends in research study outcomes and compliance, in order to contribute to the design of research studies.
