This position serves as a key staff member located in the Informatics Patient Safety Office. The Informatics Patient Safety Office supports the development and implementation of software application systems that focus towards improvement of safe, effective, quality healthcare.

Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Researches, analyzes and makes Health Information Technology (HIT) patient safety recommendations that contribute to the development of software systems to improve the delivery of safe healthcare.
Analyzes and evaluates operational or planned activities; identifies and recommends changes needed in software development life cycle.
Performs in-depth research; analyzes operating contingencies and special situations; and assists managers and other staff in developing process solutions.
Keeps abreast of emerging health information technology trends, software development projects and activities, application packages and activities in the data processing community, as well as current developments in operating systems, data base management systems and equipment related to the supported systems in the HIT environment.
Develops information to allow technically sound HIT decisions for projects critical to the success of health care delivery systems.
Participates as a VHA/VA representative in technical conferences and meetings with other Health Informatics/Information Technology entities of private organizations and/or other government agencies.
Evaluates HIT program needs and determines where changes to guidelines and policy are required and develops and/or recommends necessary changes.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 08:00 AM - 04:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/14/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. For a GS-13 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-12. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience GS-12: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Experience researching, analyzing and making Health Information Technology (HIT) patient safety recommendations that contribute to the development of software systems to improve the delivery of safe healthcare.
Experience participating in Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) or other risk analysis processes related to software systems.
Experience evaluating HIT program needs and determining where changes to guidelines and policy are required.
Experience reviewing, analyzing, tracking and recommending standards, changes, and/or issue resolutions pertaining to HIT patient safety.
Experience assisting managers and other staff in developing process solutions; investigating and analyzing adverse quality trends or conditions, and consulting with subject matter experts to determine courses of action.

Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required.
