Duties
IntroductionThe purpose of the Child and Youth Programs (CYP) Child Development Center (CDC) Assistant Director position is to assist the CDC Director in overseeing a developmentally appropriate CDC program. A CDC Assistant Director is assigned to a CDC and the incumbent is expected to work with the CDC Director with minimum supervision toward the overall objectives of administering the program. Work is subject to review for adequacy of program accomplishments, effectiveness, and compatibility with other work, and compliance with requirements.

Qualifications
(1) A Bachelor's degree in child development, early childhood education, family and consumer science (early childhood emphasis), elementary education, special education, or other degree appropriate to the position from an accredited college AND 1 year of full-time experience working with children and/or youth OR(2) A combination of education (at least 24 semester hours) and experience, or additional course work that that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above AND 3 years of full-time experience working with children and/or youth. Must be able to obtain and maintain TIER-1 Child Care (CNACI) background checks which are required for positions that involve working with children under 18 years of age. Must pass a pre-employment physical and annual physicals thereafter, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease. Must complete all DoD training requirements within the specified time including orientation, initial, DoD Standardized Module Training, and annual ongoing training requirements, and required certifications, if any. Must maintain current food handlers, CPR and First Aid certifications. May be required to obtain a government drivers license. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and possess strong interpersonal communication skills. Note: This position is identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent is subject to random drug testing because duties must be performed with a high level of productivity, reliability and judgment to prevent adversely affecting personnel safety, and causing risk/damage to government property, and/or significant adverse impact to day-to-day operations. A positive drug test, or failure to submit for testing, may become the basis for removal from this position.
