About the Position: Serves as a working leader of at least three employees in accomplishing trades and labor work located at the Tooele Army Depot, Tooele, Utah 84074.

Duties

Works as Operator in Charge of the APE 1236 Deactivation Furnace utilizing unique methods and processes to dispose of various conventional munitions. Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, and starts work (e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led). Answers workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (e.g., technical orders). Assures that safety and housekeeping rules are followed (e.g., assures that machine capacities are not exceeded and that tools are properly used).

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be cleared IAW requirements of AR 190-11, Physical Security of Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives (AA and E).
  • Must meet the requirements of AMCR 350-4, Training and Certification Program for Personnel Working in Ammunition Operations.
  • Incumbent will be subject to Random Drug Testing In Accordance With (IAW) AR 600-85.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET Security Clearance.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT TO THE GUN CONTROL ACT OF 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • Performs hazardous waste management duties and/or hazardous waste worker duties in permitted or regulated facilities. Duties may involve one or more of the following: management, coordination, engineering, or technical work
  • involving hazardous waste management programs or projects; and/ or movement, containerization, storage, identification, recordkeeping, emergency response, treatment, and/or disposition of hazardous waste. Such duties require
  • the ability to interpret and implement environmental regulations; knowledge of hazardous waste products and safety regulations; and the skill to effect regulatory requirements and ensure proper management and/or handling of hazardous wastes.
  • Must successfully complete training in Hazardous Waste Management procedures within six (6) months after the date of appointment to this position and will not work in unsupervised situations until these training requirements have been met.
  • Must also participate in an annual review of the Hazardous Waste Management trainings.

Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading)Ability to Lead or SuperviseDexterity and SafetyKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc.Knowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic)Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Work requires lifting and carrying boxes and items weighing 25 to 40 pounds, or pulling or pushing objects weighing over 40 pounds, for less than 20 percent of the work cycle. Performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending, and in tiring and uncomfortable positions. During fork lift operation, physical effort is required in braking and steering, manipulation of clutch, shift, lifting and tilting mechanisms. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is in close proximity to munitions containing explosives; is exposed to prevailing weather conditions; and equipment which generates heat sometimes up to 1600 degrees Fahrenheit. Work is performed on the demolition range and outside on ramps and storage areas when weather is often inclement. There are assignments where dirt, grease, noise, and odors are often disagreeable. Is required to wear protective clothing which is specially made and treated for working on explosives including safety shoes, glasses, coveralls, etc. Subject to assignment to either of two shifts on a regular or rotating basis.
