About the Position: This position is located at Tooele Army Depot, as a full performance Explosives Operator (Fork Lift Operator). This is a Public Notice for positions being filled under the Direct Hiring Authority (DHA) for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and Major Range and Test Facilities Base, NDAA 1125 (a) and (c).

Duties

Perform operations in the renovation, modification, demilitarization, and preservation of ammunition and explosives ranging from small arms to 280 millimeters, to include mines, grenades, and rockets. Destroy a variety of explosives, ammunition, and propellants by detonation and burning. Prime explosives according to firing system and test continuity of electrical system. Operate electric, diesel, or gasoline-powered forklift trucks to move, stack and unstack materials. Disassembly and breakdown of ammunition items operating pull-apart or breakdown machines to separate projectiles from shell casings, and base or nose plugs from bombs and mines.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Subject to Physical Security of Arms, Ammunition and Explosives certification.
• Annual physical required.
• Incumbent will be subject to random drug testing IAW AR 600-85.
• Subject to the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
• Valid state driver's license required.
• Forklift certification required within 6 months of appointment.
• Incumbent must meet the requirements of AMCR 350-4, Training and Certification Program for Personnel Working in Ammunition Operations.

Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Explosives Operator (Fork Lift Operator)~ without more than normal supervision. Experience working in production, rework, and maintenance ammunition operations or destroying a variety of explosives, ammunition, or propellants by detonation or burning. Operation of an electric, gasoline, or diesel powered fork lift truck. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Physical effort: Work involves lifting and working on production including standing, reaching, bending, stooping and manipulating carrying of items weighing up to 45 pounds lines at rhythmic pace for extended periods parts and using machines and hand tools. During fork lift operation, physical effort is required in braking and steering, manipulation of clutch, shift, lifting and tilting mechanisms. Working Conditions: Work is usually performed indoors, or outdoors in covered areas or passageways which provide some protection. Work areas are usually well lighted and ventilated. Some operations, however, such as melting powder or steaming out powder, cause uncomfortable steam or heat in the work area. Workers are required to stand on floors made of concrete, lead or conductive composition. They wear protective clothing such as specially treated coveralls, respirators and goggles on many assignments. They are frequently exposed to moisture and wet floors as a result of cleanup operations in powder working areas. They are exposed to the possibility of explosion and flash fire. There is chance of injuries ranging from loss of life or limbs to bums, cuts, bruises, sprains and nausea.
