Duty Location: Lakewood, Colorado
Duties
Works as an Engineering Technician with extensive experience working on a wide range of substantive, complex work in a hydraulics laboratory. Work includes but is not limited to:
- Performing technical evaluation and analysis on civil engineering projects in a hydraulics laboratory;
- Developing physical model drawings for hydraulics laboratory model construction;
- Programming advanced fabrication equipment to create physical model components;
- Installing and assessing instrumentation, equipment and data acquisition systems for hydraulics laboratory testing;
- Advising on material selection and construction approaches;
- Coordinating with engineers, scientists, and other employees on shop tasks and construction workload priorities;
Qualifications
Basic Qualification Requirement:

Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: Drafting, surveying construction, estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.
Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:
Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.
-OR-
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown above for GS-3 (or equivalent). At least 6 of the 24 semester hours must have been in drafting if the position has been designated by a drafting area of specialization.
Specialized Experience: In addition to meeting the Basic Qualification requirement, applicants must meet the following Specialized Experience:
To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-10 level in the Federal Government. To meet specialized experience, your resume must describe experience that demonstrates the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities as follows: performed technical evaluation and analysis on civil engineering projects, developed physical model drawings for laboratory construction, programmed advanced fabrication equipment to create model components, installed and assessed instrumentation, equipment, and data acquisition systems for laboratory testing, and advised on material selection and construction approaches.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Time-In-Grade: Current career or career-conditional employees of the Federal government, or former career or career-conditional employees, who have a break in service of less than one year, are required to meet the time-in-grade restriction of one year of Federal experience at the next lower-grade, with few exceptions outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b). Applicants eligible under the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) are not required to meet time-in-grade restrictions in order to be considered.

Education
This vacancy announcement allows substituting education for experience at the GS-11 grade level. You must submit a copy of college transcript(s) (unofficial copy is acceptable) to support claimed education if substituting education for experience. Transcripts must include the name of the college or university and date the degree was conferred. A typed list of courses, grades, semester/quarter hours, GPA, etc. will not be accepted. Non-submission may result in being rated not-qualified for the position.
You will be required to provide official college transcripts to verify educational qualifications, if selected. An official transcript must be sent directly from the University's Registrar's office and must be provided from the institution awarding the degree. Academic transcripts certified by notary publics are NOT official. Official transcripts must be submitted prior to reporting to work as a condition of employment. Failure to submit official transcripts may be grounds for dismissal or rescission of the job offer.

Foreign Education: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, you must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.
