This position is in the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Central Federal Lands Highway Division (CFLHD). It is responsible for coordinating engineering software such as Bentley Open Roads Designer and ProjectWise, managing the software, troubleshooting and identifying improvements, working with developers on fixes and enhancements, managing contracts, assisting staff with software related questions, training staff on software and best practices, and developing processes and standards.

Qualifications
Individual Occupational Requirements for series 0802 (for positions at GS-4 or equivalent and above): This series covers technical positions supervising, leading, or performing work involving applying a practical knowledge of the methods and techniques of engineering or architecture; and construction, application, properties, operations, and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices, and materials.
Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.
Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:
Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.

For the GS-12: On Experience, you must have at least one year of specialized experience, equal or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, which included:
Experience in a variety of engineering hardware and software applications, such as Micro Station, Bentley OpenRoads products, ProjectWise, IHSDM, Autoturn, SignCAD, engineer’s estimate software, and their application to highway design and development of plans, specification, and estimate (PS&E) packages; AND
Experience in applying technical engineering concepts, principles, practices, and methods pertaining to highway design in order to serves as the technical advisor in the development of roadway designs and PS&E packages.
You cannot qualify based on education at the GS-12 level, you must have experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Systems Integration - Knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures for installing, integrating, and optimizing information systems components.
Technical Problem Solving - Troubleshoots, diagnoses, analyzes, and identifies system malfunctions to determine the source and cause of the problem.
Civil Engineering - Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain facilities such as buildings, transportation systems, water and sanitary systems, and other public works systems.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
