This position is located within Behavioral Health Services at the El Paso VA Health Care System (EPVAHCS) in El Paso, TX. This position serves as a Management Assistant to the Program Manager of the Behavioral Health Program and performs a variety of duties in an environment focused on providing services to mental health patients in a broad and complex product line.
Duties

The major duties include but are not limited to:
Serves as a staff analyst, evaluator, and advisor to the Program Manager, Behavioral Health Associate Chief of Staff (BH ACOS), Deputy Chief, or Behavioral Health Administrative Officer (BH AO) of the Behavioral Health Service;
Performs management analysis and program analysis to provide the program manager with objective information for making decisions pertaining to business and administrative performance measures and in the evaluation and improvement of the efficiency, effectiveness and productivity of the BH program;
Utilizes responsibility for inpatient (tracking) and outpatient Behavioral health service delivery, and clinical and non-clinical behavioral health functions;
Performs professional as well as administrative, managerial, and financial responsibilities involving multiple layers of staff at multiple locations;
Analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness and efficiency of multiple program operations in Behavioral Health, assessing the services provided to patients served;
Under the direction of the Program Manager, assists in the planning and tracking of all Performance Measures for BHS;
Works independently to organize office procedures by identifying required resources and devising actions to improve and meet the goals and objectives of the organization; recommends to the Program Manager ways to improve workflow and operations output;
Provides technical expertise and training to clinical staff regarding proper procedures to ensure;
Tracks finances and orders recurring supplies and testing material for all Behavioral Health Staff;
Works closely with Credentialing, Privileging and Human Resources on recruitment, retention and licensing of all Psychologists, Social Workers, Nurse Practitioners, Psychiatrists, Registered Nurses, etc.;
Works with BH ACOS, Deputy Chief, Program Manager, BH AO, RMC, CCU and specialty subsections in preparing submissions to the Resource Management Committee and Human Resources;
Serves as the back up timekeeper and posts timecards for the service of 126+ employees, monitoring and assuring adequate coverage for peak workloads and traditional holiday vacation time;
Works independently to control and maintain office and/or information systems such as forms, records, mail distribution, directives, or publications and management systems;
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position at the GS-6 level, you must meet the following requirement:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-5) in Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the Management Assistant position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes providing administrative and technical support for the management of various programs; applying analytical and evaluative techniques; performing data collection and analysis, compiling data for reporting purposes; utilizing knowledge of principles of financial management, personnel management, organizational development and strategic management; researching and fact-finding to ensure compliance with established protocol; presenting information to higher management; performing searches of historical files; and composing routine letters and memoranda. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.

Physical Requirements: The work is mainly sedentary. Typically, the person in this position sits comfortably to do the work. However, there will be some walking, standing, bending and carrying of items such as papers, books and moderately sized boxes of supplies.
