This position is part of the Blackfeet Dormitory, Bureau of Indian Education. As a School Cook (Supervisor) you will be responsible for serving as a member of the Bureau of Indian Education in a BIE School on or near the Reservation. The School Cook position is the major support position for the BIE School.
Duties
As a School Cook (Supervisor) CY-7404-2, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision:
Prepare and cook a variety of meats, vegetables, bread items, desserts and accompanying items for consumption by students in a school cafeteria.
Preparation of special food items for banquets, field trips, school picnics and parties.
Develops or follows a preestablished menu, using expertise to substitute items as necessary.
Order food on a regularly scheduled basis, using established procedures.
Prepare monthly and other required reports, including reports for reimbursement under the USDA school breakfast and school lunch programs and maintain supporting documentation as required.
Responsible for assuring that meals, sack lunches and special meals for sick students meet nutritional or other specified requirements.
Responsible for assuring that the school kitchen is in compliance with applicable tribal, state, and/or federal health and safety requirements.
Responsible for serving food, washing dishes and kitchen utensils, unloading and storing food supplies, taking inventory, and cleaning up of kitchen facilities.
Proper supervision of students eating and assisting in the cafeteria.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a background clearance.
- Must possess and maintain valid state issued Driver's License.
- Must complete a pre-employment and annual physical with the ability to lift fifty (50) pounds.
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment.
- Must possess and maintain valid Food Handler's Certificate.

Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements contained in the approved job category for P.L. 95-561 described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Basic Education and Experience Requirements for the School Cook 7404-02:
High School or General Educational Development (GED) Diploma AND one year related experience.
may substitute for one year experience - successful completion of one-year (two semester) or longer full time training program in food service management.
MUST possess and maintain valid food handler's certificate (online training available with Indian Health Services)
MUST demonstrate ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Must attach a copy of a valid Food Handler's Certificate with application. Failure to provide Food Handler Certificate will result in not qualified rating.
