Selectee will work in the Air Conditioning and Pipefitting Shop of the Maintenance and Repair Section of Facility Management Service. Selectee regularly and as recurring part of job, repairs and modifies a variety of equipment and systems that achieve regulated climatic conditions, for the San Juan VA Caribbean Healthcare System and all other offices and clinics in the system.

Duties

Included, but are not limited to: Locate and check elements such as those that control low side and high side pressure; temperature of cooling units; temperatures of liquid and suction line; and running time of various mechanisms. Check for probability of leaks by visual and audible examination of equipment components. Calculate airflow and the pressure-temperature characteristics for different systems to locate and repair faulty equipment. Dismantle, repair and reassemble units such as pumps, impellers, compressors, chillers, receivers and evaporators. Locate trouble before dismantling, and make repair to insure proper function after. Inspect, adjust and repair air conditioning, equipment and systems. Inspect major items to check for stress or strain, cracks, and check all moving parts for wear and possible replacement.
