About the Position: The installation rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, and 150 miles north of San Antonio.
Duties
Performs a wide variety of tasks pertaining to rules, regulations, and guidelines in Human Resources Military.
Processes separations and retirements for service members.
Determines the method of fulfillment of US Army Reserve contractual obligations and the unit of assignment.
Computes leave balances and determines the amounts of leave not used in order to ensure that soldiers are monetarily reimbursed for any leave not used or previously sold.
Provides information to service members and survivors on separations, retirement, benefits, and entitlements.
Conducts individual and group interviews to retiring, separating personnel, and family members.
Authenticates documents and forms applicable to the specific type of separation or retirement. I
Prepares required casualty reports to DA Casualty and concerned commands/ units/organizations.
Prepares and briefs at various Commander and Senior Leadership Courses.
Receives, screens and prepares incoming records for review with newly assigned service members.
Prepares MPRJ's, Personnel Qualification Records, Enlisted Records Briefs, Officer Records Briefs, and military correspondence using discretion in selecting proper actions.
Enforces policies pertaining to military, civilian, dependents, and contractors ID cards.
Produces work in an accurate and efficient manner using several types of software for various office needs.
Drafts and prepares letters, endorsements, messages, and other written communications concerning the mission of the Transition Center.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- Overtime and shift work may be required on short notice to include nights, holidays, and weekends in support of related mission requirements.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing military personnel records; providing support in processing military separation actions and/or using automated systems to process human resource actions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Proficiency Requirement: This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5-minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
