Organizational Location: These positions are located in the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Office of Professional Responsibility, in Farmers Branch, Texas, New York, New York, and Washington, District of Columbia.

Duties
As a Security Specialist (Special Security Officer), you will perform the following duties:
Serves as the technical authority responsible for safeguarding Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) from unauthorized access or inadvertent disclosure, in accordance with ICD 703, by ensuring only duly authorized and indoctrinated personnel access SCI in properly accredited facilities over approved networks;
Effects security system design, installation and maintenance in a wide range of activities within the agency and provides solutions for security problems and questions;
Supplies technical expertise on Intrusion Detection System and Access Control System requirements during SCIF construction;
Performs a variety of briefings such as: indoctrinations, debriefings, annual refresher trainings and defensive travel briefings;
Processes and conducts inquiries on SCI security incidents.
Requirements

- Probationary Period: This is a full-time permanent position (Career/Career-Conditional appointment). Upon appointment to this position, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.

You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as :
Investigating and analyzing a broad range of unusual SCI security problems or conditions associated with SCI and national SCI programs;
Overseeing and managing the life cycle requirements for SCIF's including: granting and removing personnel access, executing SCI indoctrinations and debriefings, investigating SCI security incidents and ensuring the successful opening and closing of SCIF;
Overseeing SCIF construction security requirements during SCIF construction projects; And
Serving as an agency representative with stakeholders throughout the agency to determine technical and functional requirements for logical and physical access.
