This position is at the U.S. Botanic Garden (USBG). The USBG is a public garden in the legislative branch and was established by Congress in 1820. The Garden inspires people to appreciate, study, and conserve plants to enrich society locally and globally. We provide educational experiences to 1 million visitors annually, present horticultural displays and exhibits, strive to break down barriers to inclusion, and advance the exchange of ideas and information. Duties
This is a temporary / not-to-exceed (NTE) 13-month position.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen.
- You must be able to pass a drug test.
- Your resume and question responses must demonstrate job-related elements.
- Must possess and maintain a valid and unexpired State driver's license.
Qualifications
You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position. You must meet all eligibility and qualifications requirements by the closing date of the job announcement. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
Candidates for the GS-07 grade level must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience for this position includes:
Facilitating and supporting educational programs and products for a variety of audiences.
Delivering educational programs in a public garden, museum, or cultural organization.
Supporting on-site and off-site educational programs about nature, science, horticulture, or other plant science or botanical subject areas.
Organizing, maintaining and managing educational or other resource materials.
Assisting colleagues with training staff and volunteers to deliver educational programs or activities.
--OR-- Superior Academic Achievement Superior Academic Achievement which is defined as having achieved superior academic standing as evidenced by: (1) Class standing - upper third of the graduating class in the college, university or major subdivision; (2) Grade-point average (GPA) – (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 as recorded on the official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; (3) Honor society membership in a national scholastic honor society listed by the Association of College Honor Societies. Membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision. To be creditable, superior academic achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled. Combination of Graduate Education and Professional Experience Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Only graduate level education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be combined with experience.
Candidates for the GS-09 grade level must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Developing and facilitating educational programs and products for a variety of audiences.
Facilitating on-site and off-site educational programs about nature, science, horticulture, or other plant science or botanical subject areas.
Delivering educational programs in a public garden, museum, or cultural organization.
Participating in the development of educational content, goals, objectives and outcomes for programs, outreach activities, and hands-on activities.
Assisting in the evaluation of program activities and making recommendations for improvement.
Organizing, maintaining and managing educational or other resource materials.
Training staff and volunteers to deliver educational programs or activities.

Qualifying on Education:
You may substitute education for experience for this position. Your education must consist of two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or equivalent graduate degree. Must be related to the duties of the position.
Education
BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
All applicants must have the following:
A. Successful completion of a full four-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included or was supplemented by major field of study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.
--OR--
B. Combination of education and experience----courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four-year course study described in A above.
Special Instructions for Foreign Education:
Education completed outside of the United States must be deemed equivalent to that gained in conventional/accredited U.S. education programs to be acceptable for Federal employment.
Qualifying education from colleges and universities in foreign countries must be evaluated in terms of equivalency to that acquired in U.S. colleges and universities. Applicants educated in whole or in part of foreign countries must submit sufficient evidence, including transcripts, to an accredited private organization for an equivalency evaluation of course work and degree.
You must provide a copy of the letter containing the results of the equivalency evaluation with a course-by-course listing if selected.
