The USPS OIG is seeking students enrolled in an ABA accredited law school to fill our College Student Intern Program (CSIP) (Unpaid) position in the Office of General Counsel located in Arlington, VA. The office seeks one law student, at the 1L, 2L, 3L, or LLM level. Bring your skills and voice to our team!
Duties
In-Office Requirement:
The U.S. Postal Service, Office of Inspector General values collaboration, teamwork, and effective communication to foster our dynamic working and learning environment. The position adheres to our agency's telework policy to facilitate this and requires an in-office presence of at least two days per pay period. Remote work is not available for this role.
The successful candidate will research and otherwise assist attorneys who advise on audits, investigations, ethics, employment, litigation, contracts, federal appropriations, and other matters that arise in the Office of Inspector General. The successful Student Intern may be eligible for continuous employment throughout the year, while enrolled in school.
This is an unpaid internship.
Candidates will be evaluated on the skills that they possess that are directly related to the duties of the position and the experience, education and training that indicate the applicant's ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position. Only those candidates who meet all qualification and eligibility requirements and who submit the required information by 11:59 PM EST on 08/16/2024 will be considered.

Interns are expected to perform legal research and draft memoranda on diverse legal matters, including: criminal, employment, labor, contracting, procurement, federal appropriations, ethics, public sector civil litigation, audits, and other Inspector General matters. Interns may have the opportunity to:
Assist attorneys in developing and reviewing policies and procedures
Research areas of state criminal law applicable to investigations
Advise clients (with the supervision of licensed attorneys)
Conduct reviews and/or research to support OIG subpoenas, contracts, and employee relations
Provide litigation assistance
Conduct conflict of interest reviews for outside employment
Conduct Giglio Reviews
Draft FOIA Appeal decision letters for signature
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be able to pass a drug screening and medical assessment questionnaire.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Moderate Background Investigation (MBI) clearance.
- Must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
You must meet ALL of the minimum qualifications listed below.
Students must be currently enrolled full or part-time in an ABA accredited law school, classified or academically ranked by semester hours as a First, Second, or Third-year student. (MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPT STATING CURRENT ENROLLMENT STATUS, GPA AND IN GOOD STANDING - an unofficial transcript from the university is acceptable. May be required to produce an official transcript prior to receipt of a formal offer.)
AND
Must be in academic good standing as defined by the ABA accredited law school, with at least a 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 GPA scale.
AND
Must be able to report to work in the Arlington, VA USPS OIG office during core business hours.
EVALUATION FACTORS
You must have the experience, knowledge and skills as listed in EACH of the evaluation factors. Failure to demonstrate that you meet all of the evaluation factor requirements as listed below will result in a score of zero (0); an ineligible status, and you will not be referred for further consideration. Include your major accomplishments relevant to the position requirements in your resume.
Ability to research and analyze legal issues, including criminal law, employment and labor law, contracting and procurement law, federal appropriations law, Inspector General-related law, ethics, public sector civil litigation, federal administrative law and/or audits
Skill in writing legal opinions and analysis
Ability to communicate effectively and maintain client relationships
Education
