This position supports the Joint Staff Public Affairs Office and as such, directly collaborates with fellow public affairs and administrative peers across the Joint Staff, Office of the Secretary of Defense, and U.S. Government. This position directly supports the Public Affairs Deputy Director and Director by enabling flat communications, interfacing with media personalities, assisting with administrative duties, and enabling the office to maintain visibility.
Duties
As an ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT(PUBLIC AFFAIRS) at the GS-0303-8 some of your typical work assignments may include:
Serves as an administrative assistant for the Joint Staff Public Affairs office, providing administrative assistance and facilitating media relations to the 10+ team.
Facilitates the conduct of meetings, conferences, working groups through efficient synchronizing and maintenance of calendars, correspondence, and analytic products.
Research's, prioritizes, and follows up on incoming issues, including media research (traditional and social media), and concerns addressed to the Public Affairs office, including those of a sensitive or confidential nature.
Performs a variety of administrative functions.
Serves as an authoritative source of information within the office for administrative procedures.
Facilitates the submission of awards, adhering to the JS submission processes and policies.

Qualifications
You may qualify at the GS-8, if you fulfill the following qualifications:
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service:
Communicating orally and in writing to internal and external audiences to include: Public Affairs offices, media personalities, and other Agency departments;
Scheduling meetings, conferences, working groups through efficient synchronizing of calendars and correspondence;
Creating presentations, letters and spreadsheets in support of executive meetings and special projects.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
