About the Position: Works under the general supervision of Chief, Logistics, S4 Public Health Command Pacific (PHC-P), who provides general assignments based on scheduled and unscheduled maintenance workload. American Association of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) OR Veterans Administration Biomedical Equipment Technician certification is desirable.
Duties
Serves as a functional subject matter expert for one or more of the following systems: Radiology, Laboratory, Patient Monitoring, Pulmonary, and High-End Electronics.
Evaluates, installs, maintains, diagnoses, repairs, calibrates, and tests medical electronic equipment/systems.
Serves as a Project Manager involving the installation, service and repair of highly complex medical equipment and systems as well as technical advisor to clinical staff.
Inspects services performed on-site by commercial vendors for acceptable work performed in light of contract and original manufacturer’s specifications
Conducts preventive maintenance checks and services.
Tests and classifies medical equipment in current use and determines serviceability, and disposition.
Prepares plans of instruction and conducts training for staff personnel as well as other technicians.
Requirements
- May require occasional work outside of normal duty hours.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs or more.
- In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization. The incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Temporary duty (TDY) travel is required 25% of the time.
- This position requires incumbent to be mission essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Perform maintenance and repairs of electronic components for medical equipment and/or systems; 2) Set up and install new equipment and/or systems, AND 3) Provide training/assistance to staff on equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
