This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Management Directorate (MGMT), Office of Biometric Identity Management (OBIM), Futures Identity (FI) Branch. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Physical Scientist, advisor, consultant and subject matter expert. Employee provides expert advisory services on evaluating scientific approaches to technology development and solution delivery to customers. Non-BU: This is a non-bargaining unit position.

Duties

As a Physical Scientist/ General Mathematics Analyst (Academic Engagement), GS-1301/1501-14, your typical work assignments may include: Serves as a Physical Scientist in the academics arena providing subject matter expertise in evaluating scientific approaches to technology development and solution delivery to customers in support of the FI mission. The employee develops strategic plans, roadmaps, and mechanics to ensure delivery of high quality university- based scientific research. Responsible for identifying, defining, and championing scientific and technology needs and engagement opportunities within Futures Identity (FI) and its stakeholders. Sets priorities to ensure academic engagement is pursued with researchers investigating and performing novel research within relevant biometric, identity, and information technology (IT) topic areas. Lead data analysis projects through the innovation lifecycle from ideation through deployment to develop advanced analytics capabilities in support of current and future project, prototypes, or proofs of concept and other operational challenges relevant to DHS's mission. Qualifications

Individual Occupational Requirements General Physical Science Series, 1301 Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. or Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. General Mathematics and Statistics Series 1501 Degree: Mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. or Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as: Contributes on the development of strategic plans, roadmaps, and mechanics to ensure delivery of high-quality university based scientific research. Knowledge of Analytics and computational capabilities through a rigorous process of problem definition, ideation, review, revision, and execution to determine the most promising solutions and approaches which, if successful, should positively change the outcome of DHS mission requirements. Collaborates in the oversight for the architectural principles, standards, and adherence that affect development, maintenance, and use of the enterprise architecture (EA). Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level. All requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.
