The Clinical Center (CC), the major research hospital of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), seeks to identify an outstanding Physician (Pharmacologic Stewardship) to serve as the Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. The incumbent exercises a wide latitude of leadership, management responsibility, judgment, initiative, creativity and substantive professional medical knowledge and expertise to lead the committee.

Duties

As a Physician (Pharmacologic Stewardship), your duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: Having oversight responsibilities for the Clinical Center formulary including additions, deletions, and substitutions as well as the evaluation of pharmaceuticals both individually and as members of recognized groups. Working with Department of Pharmacy leadership, CC leadership, IC leadership, and the CC Medical Executive Committee to ensure patient safety and stewardship of all resources provided to the Department of Pharmacy. Setting the strategic direction for the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and determining the necessary goals, objectives, and initiatives to achieve the strategic direction and overseeing the development of the plans to implement these. Providing advice to the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer and the Chief Medical Officer in the Clinical Center on specific policies, procedures, and standards of patient care, as needed, when expertise in the medical specialty is required. Identifying and managing significant medical projects and programs. Keeping well-informed of current research, new methods, and technological advances in the medical specialty, overseeing their timely incorporation to ensure state-of-the-art medical services; and disseminating relevant information to Department members and the Clinical Center and NIH communities, when appropriate. Supporting clinical research at the NIH, serves the patients, collaborates with health care providers, ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws and the standards of accrediting organizations, and innovates best practices in the medical specialty. The incumbent may hold a dual role within the CC or pursue opportunities in another institute aligned with the CC's mission.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Physician GP-0602 position, you must meet the Education, Licensure, and Graduate Training requirement as described below: Education Requirement: A. Successful completion of the requirements for Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent, from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association; or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For further information, please visit OPM's qualification standard; OR B. Successful completion of a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States that was demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG); OR C. Possession of a Fifth Pathway certificate through the successful completion of premedical education in the United States AND graduate education from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. OR D. Successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. Licensure Requirement: You must have an active, current, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Graduate Training Requirement: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, you must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. Graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below: An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g. internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME); OR A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association, (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME); OR A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training. Additional Qualification Requirements: In order to qualify for a Physician at the GP-0602-15 level, you must possess five years of graduate training in the clinical specialty of the position to be filled, OR five years of equivalent experience and training. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
