About the Position: The installation rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, and 150 miles north of San Antonio.

Duties

Serves as Fort Cavazos Range Operations Officer and Operations Branch Supervisor. Manages through subordinate supervisors, the use of the Fort Cavazos Live Fire Training Areas, Maneuver Training Areas, and selected training facilities. Coordinates with Fort Cavazos Military Police and Civilian law Enforcement officials with the law enforcement requirements/assistance on and around Fort Cavazos. Responsible for receiving Fire Waiver Requests from units requesting to fire tracer, pyrotechnics and incendiaries when the fire conditions are elevated on Fort Cavazos Ranges. Coordinates and interacts with Army, intra-service, interagency, and multi-national senior and executive leadership on complex live fire and training operations. Serves as a liaison between Dust-Off (Lifesaver) Operation and Darnall Army Community Hospital in the evaluation of injured personnel on the installation. Responsible for the NET Control Radio Network for all live-fire activities and Aeromedical Evacuations (Lifesaver) missions within the installation.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
