This position reports to the Chief, Nutrition and Food Services at the Miami VA Healthcare System, and includes various clerical and administrative duties in support of the organization, performing office automation duties such as time keeping, management of records, and word processing in support of the clerical and administrative work.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Use word processing software to complete meeting minutes, create, copy, edit, store, retrieve and print forms, memos, letters and time keeping files/records for the service.
Perform timekeeping work and management of time keeping records for the service.
Use existing database or spreadsheet software to create, enter, revise, sort or calculate and retrieve data for reports and presentations.
Prepare a wide variety of recurring correspondence, internal reports, and other documents from information obtained from office staff, files and other sources and reviews and finalizes documents prepared by others.
Screen incoming mail to identify what needs to be brought to the attention of the supervisor, referred to the appropriate staff, or rerouted to other offices.
Receive and direct telephone calls or visitors.
Establish, update and maintain office records of various types that may be needed or will assist in the efficient operation of the office.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, 8:00am - 4:30pm, Mon - Fri
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/05/2024.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
General Experience GS-04: 1 year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 2 years of education above high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation.
OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages.
Preferred Experience: Experience with Microsoft applications as well as with time keeping and payroll processing. Able to troubleshoot and answer questions of staff regarding payroll in a cordial and supportive manner using exceptional customer service.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. May require some walking, standing, bending, carrying and/or lifting of light items like papers or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
