Qualifications
NOTE: You must meet qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
To qualify for the GS-15 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level defined as advising on tribal issues and their impact on regulatory programs; evaluating environmental programs' performance to identify areas of improvement and track progress; collaborating with stakeholders (e.g., non-governmental entities, industry and private sector interests, academia, other Federal agencies, and/or state, local and tribal officials) in managing and/or executing government programs.
Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of the interests and priorities of tribal governments.
Ability to communicate complex technical and policy concepts to a diverse range of audiences.
Skill in interpreting human health and environmental requirements and providing authoritative advice and assistance to federal, state, local, and tribal human health and environmentalprofessionals and other stakeholders.
Skill as a Tribal Program liaison with the Tribal coordinators, OITA, AIEO and OIA offices to ensure accurate messaging and national consistency in terms of the Region’s tribes and indigenous peoples work.
Knowledge of Federal Indian Law principles.
Skill in applying EPA's Indian Policies for working effectively with tribal governments.
Skill in incorporating new technical policy and legal information into guidelines and standards.
Knowledge of management practices and procedures to resolve problems related to environmental programs in Indian Country.
Ability to manage multiple project priorities simultaneously.
Ability to coordinate on Tribal grant funding and other financial assistance needs.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
