This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Inspection Division, Office of Security Programs. This position(s) primary purpose is to provide senior management of methods and remedies to reduce security vulnerabilities and risks, and of current and future security requirements and plans.

Duties

As a Physical Security Specialist, your typical work assignments may include: Serving as the Subject Mater Expert on security matters as they relate to the design and implementation of electronic security systems, physical security countermeasures and the protection of National Security Information. Advising management of methods and remedies to reduce security vulnerabilities and risks, and of best practices and recommendations regarding new and emerging electronic security technologies, and current and future security requirements and plans. Serving as security liaison, and works closely with investigative, intelligence, counterintelligence, and security personnel in other law enforcement agencies and organizations. Providing counterintelligence support to foreign and domestic operations through the conduct of vulnerability determinations and risk assessments.

  • Applicant must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license while employed in the position and will be required to operate the motor vehicle in accordance with applicable OPM regulations and related requirements of DOJ/DEA.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all of the required qualification requirements described below by the closing of this announcement. If you are qualifying based on education or if there are mandatory education requirements listed below, you MUST submit a copy of your college transcript with your application. Applicants applying for the GS-13 must meet one of the following requirements: A. Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience that is at least equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS-12 grade level. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Recommending methods for enhancing efficiency of security systems through modification and application of evolving technologies; 2) Assesses security vulnerabilities and designs security systems based on analysis of the intent and operating techniques of hostile agencies, services, and organizations; 3) Planning and designing programs to protect personnel and/or highly sensitive facilities; and, 4) Developing special strategy and plans and monitors and reviews programs plans for constant improvement. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants must meet time-in-grade and time after competitive appointment requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
