Duties
You will serve as a Supervisory Physical Scientist in the N3/N5 Department, US Naval Observatory, Washington D.C.
You will oversee all operations in the Ops Center, including the coordination of the routine daily monitoring of the automated generation of operational USNO products.
You will distribute and balance the workload among employees.
You will estimate and report on problems with completion of work, prepare production reports, and make available written instructions.
You will coordinate operations with the Department Head and other members of the USNO staff to ensure optimal functionality.
You will interact with the USNO product users, discuss product availability and note potential problems reported to the Operations Center.
Requirements

Qualifications
Basic Education Requirements:
Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
or
Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Experience:
In addition to the Basic Education Requirement above, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience with a wide range of concepts, principles, and practices of USNO operations, including timekeeping, astronomy, and Earth Orientation determination.
Experience in planning, executing, and reporting original studies or ongoing studies requiring fresh approach to resolve new problems.
Experience originating new techniques in the area of physical science.
Experience identifying the processes and techniques required to interpret and evaluate the data, and to provide feedback on the efficaciousness of the technological developments.
Experience with instrumentation, data processing, or analysis, in order to operate USNO capabilities.
