This position is located in the Compensation and Pension section of the Coatesville VAMC. The Environmental Health Coordinator (EHC) is responsible for the management of VA's Environmental Health programs, under the direction of the Post-Deployment Health Services (PDHS). The PDHS manages the War Related Illness and Injury Study Center (WRIISC) which provides clinical care, research, and education for Veterans with deployment-related health concerns.

Duties

The Environmental Health Coordinator position involves the administration for the Environmental Health programs, managing and independently performing all administrative functions that include but are not limited to the following: Serves as a subject matter expert on environmental exposures. Provides detailed information to Veterans and their family members on environmental exposures during military service and associated health effects. Disseminates information on Environmental Health programs to Veterans and their family members, to VA staff and other interested parties via health fairs, newsletters, fact sheets, websites, etc. Maintains Veteran data in Excel and makes Power Point presentations for administrative briefings, Medical Center meetings or as required for VISN and VACO. Gathers, reviews, analyses, monitors and maintains assigned registry programs system independently identifying discrepancies and providing quality assurance of registry worksheets prior to submission. Attends local and community outreach events and participates in network development of technical program analysis. Monitors compliance with timeframe requirements and explores other options if timeliness requirement cannot be met. Tracks the online lists of Veterans who are requesting live exams and ensures timely scheduling. Evaluates research, proactively offers recommendations and suggestions to improve program functions to accommodate Veterans. Ensures follow-up letters have been generated to Veterans communicating the results of their registry exams and any recommended follow-up. Writes facility policy memoranda and SOPs on the Environmental Health programs. Maintains daily contacts (face-to-face, telephone, e-mail, correspondence, etc.) with Veterans, family members, Veterans Service Organization, public officials to explain VA policies and procedures. Refers Veterans to Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) if interested in filing a claim for service connection. Keeps EH clinician and other administrative staff informed on all matters pertaining to daily office functioning and alerts the EH clinician and other administrative staff on concerns related to office management. Prepares summary reports, memorandums, official letters, etc., in response to requirements or tasks on behalf of the EH clinician or designee. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/09/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include: scheduling appointments; screening calls and visitors and providing necessary information according to policy; utilizing office automation software to format letters and reply to inquiries; general clerical and administrative work, collect, compile, and/or track data and statistical information, organize data; preparing a wide variety of recurring and non recurring correspondence; maintain office files and records; prepare, execute, and/or track program specific information. Preferred Experience: Experience in working with Compensation and Pension exams, Toxic Exposure Screening scheduling. Experience with platforms such as VSSC, Power Bi, CAPRI, VBMS, VIRP and EAS. Familiarity with use of Excel, Word and Power Point. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work requires some physical exertion such as periods of walking, standing or sitting within the assigned clinic areas. Some bending, climbing of stairs and lifting of medical records or forms/supplies is required. The quantity and variety of clinical staff contacts require that the position can respond to multiple complex issues and establish priority as the situation demands. There is no educational substitution at this grade level: However, as a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
