The Portland, Oregon VA Medical Center is recruiting for a GS-07 Supervisory Medical Support Assistants in the Business Office-Float Pool. This position manages, directs, and supervises all administrative Float Pool support staff.

The purpose of the position is to serve as the Supervisory Medical Support Assistant (MSA) for the Business Office in the Float Pool.
This position has full supervisory responsibility for multiple MSAs assigned to the Float Pool. The primary responsibility of the Supervisory Medical Support Assistant is to provide department leadership, guidance and supervises the designated work of the Float Pool team. Monitors real time call volumes and allocates available resources to ensure superior service for patients. Responds to escalated patient concerns and assists in tracking and collection of data. Monitors and coaches staff to meet established goals and key indicators including: Quality Assurance, Issue
resolution, Service Level, Average Call Handle Time, scheduling and scanning accuracy, etc. Leads special projects as assigned by Manager. Incumbent will be at full performance level.
The incumbent's duty location is at the Portland VA HCS Vancouver Campus. Traveling for training or support activities to the other campus may be required occasionally. Incumbent is directly responsible to the Program Specialist, Telephone Access, Business Office.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency. MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j
Specialized Experience: you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level leading or supervising MSAs or equivalent administrative patient support staff in a non-VA medical inpatient, outpatient, or interdisciplinary setting. **Resume must include hours per week for work experience credit.
Candidates must demonstrate the KSAs below:
Ability to provide the full range of administrative and supervisory duties to at least one subordinate MSA supervisor or team leader in a patient support setting which includes assignment of work, performance evaluations, selection of staff, and recommendation of awards and/or advancements.
Ability to collaborate, communicate, and demonstrate customer service and interpersonal skills with internal and external customers to ensure quality/continuity of care and ensure compliance with established policies and regulations.
Ability to provide briefings, orientations, staff development, and training in a patient support setting.
Ability to manage fiscal matters, forecast resource and equipment needs, and identify budget needs.
Advanced knowledge of managing or leading patient support staff in a clinic. This includes independently utilizing reference sources, decision making, and empowering the team to collaborate and resolve problems within a complex systems environment.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-07.
Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary but may require periods of standing or walking however, there are no physical requirements for the 0679 Medical support Assistant occupation.
Education
Education cannot be substituted for experience at the GS-07 grade level.
