The Portland VA Medical Center is looking to fill a Lead Medical Support Assistant position in the following department: One position in Business Office SASS Trainer/Vancouver that may require some travel to the Community Based Outreach Clinics. Duties

The Lead Medical Support Assistant Trainer works as a member of the Scheduling Administration Services Section (SASS) of the Business Office at Vancouver. The Lead Medical Support Assistant Trainer works to develop and administer training programs for the staff of the Business Office as well as administrative employees throughout the facility, outpatient clinics and CBOCs. The incumbent coordinates orientation activities for new employees to Business Office and prepares materials to acquaint new employees with the organization's mission, structure, history, objectives and policies.Some of the Lead MSA duties may include but are not limited to: - Monitors and makes work assignments - Monitors AMSA actions when scheduling community care appointments - Provides input on performance and disciplinary matters - Resolves daily workplace issues and maintains efficient workflows - Assures coverage of all areas of responsibility - Conducts ongoing reviews to ensure quality of work - Ensures accurate and timely authorizations - Provides guidance to staff members to include changes in policies and procedures - Distributes and balances workload - Creates and maintains employee work schedules - Orients and provides on-the-job training and mentorship for new and current employees - Ensures all training requirements are met - Organizes the work structure of assigned areas - Resolves complex problems to ensure patient services are met Work Schedule: Typical tour of duty is Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm *Available shifts will be discussed during the interview process. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j Specialized Experience: Must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level (1) collaborating with medical clinicians across multiple disciplines, scheduling interdisciplinary appointments, and possessing an advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community Candidates must demonstrate the KSAs below: 1. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources. 2. Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient care systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting. 3. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines. 4. Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desires effect and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff. 5. Ability to provide staff development and training. 6. Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage workflow priorities, and adjust the flow of work to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact if incomplete work across multiple clinics.
