Duties
If selected, you will serve as an Information Technology (IT) Specialist for the United States Attorney's Office for District of Maryland. You will be responsible for providing technical and analytical assistance involving three or more IT specialty areas which support the information management needs of the District. Typical work assignments will include:
Diagnosing and resolving problems in response to customer reported incidents;
Providing customer support services including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, customer assistance and training in response to user requirements;
Managing accounts, network rights, and access to systems and equipment;
Designing, developing, testing, implementing, and managing internet and intranet websites.
Monitoring functionality, security, and integrity of internet services, as well as managing internet servers;
Planning and scheduling the installation of new or modified hardware, operating systems and applications software, working closely with customers to ensure seamless installation and minimizing installation problems;
Maintaining network architecture and infrastructure, to include configuring and maintaining servers, hubs, routers, and switches, and monitoring network capacity and performance; and
Understanding and enforcing policies and procedures to ensure information systems reliability and accessibility, and to prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems, networks, and data.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
- You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.
Qualifications
To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a Combination of Education and Experience.
Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped you with the competencies needed to perform the duties of the job. Qualifying experience must demonstrate possession of each of the following competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving. As well as 3 out of the 4 bullets listed below:
Providing IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software/hardware problems;
Performing ongoing network monitoring and management;
Distributing and installing new or upgraded software to ensure customers receive current versions of supported software; designing, developing, testing, implementing, and managing internet and intranet websites;
Participating in the testing and implementation of an organization's information security program.
OR
Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Information Science, Engineering, Computer Science): a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher graduate education leading to such a degree. This education must have been in one of the following fields OR must have provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the following fields and must have required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks: Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, or Technology Management.

Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. To qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years.
Education
All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools that meet this criteria, see

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above education requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
