Duties

The Supervisory Radiologic Technologist has the responsibility for planning, developing, and directing the General Radiology, Interventional Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Bone Density, Computed Tomography (CT) scan, Ultrasound (US), & Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) operations of the Radiology Service within the Medical Imaging Division. The SRT also supports the Radiology Administrator & Division Manager, Medical Imaging Division, who provides the direct supervision of the position. MAJOR DUTIES: Directs the technical services and programs that support this complex tertiary care facility (1A), VA community outpatient-based clinics (CBOCs) within VISN 12. Assists with planning and coordinating work accomplished by sub-specialty areas of General Radiology (including Fluoroscopy), Interventional Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Bone Density, CT scan, Ultrasound & MRI. Assigns work based on priorities, degree of difficulty/complexity, requirements for successful completion of assignments and capabilities of employees. Evaluates and directs work performance of subordinate staff, students, and volunteers. Decides on emergent, costly, or controversial training needs and requests for employees of Medical Imaging to remain current and proficient in emerging technologies. Remain current and proficient in emerging technologies. Oversees work of General Radiologic Technologists (GS 5-9), Interventional Technologists (GS 9&10), CT Scan Technologists (GS 8-10) and affiliated Radiologic Technology students. Provides advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both clinical and administrative matters. Assists Radiologists and provides evaluation and reports to upper management regarding the effectiveness of PACS imaging and voice recognition dictation systems for the Veterans. Oversees volunteer recruitment and placement within medical imaging. Oversees day to day operation at Green Bay CBOC when Green Bay chief technologist is not available. Work Schedule: Full time; Monday through Friday 9:00am to 5:30pm Compressed/Flexible: May be available with supervisory approval. Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified candidates in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g.) Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is preferred and required for performing assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), [or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable]. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent [can operate independently] and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. [In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist.] Must submit a copy of this certification. Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).] Documentation required. Credentialing Standards. Public Law 97-35, the Consumer-Patient Radiation Health and Safety Act of 1981, requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75, Standards for the Accreditation of Educational Programs and the Credentialing of Radiographic Personnel. Essentially, they must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation and is accredited by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and be certified as radiographers in their field. English Language Proficiency. Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and7407(d). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements above, you must meet the following: GS-11 LEVEL Experience: Must have at least 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-10) directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level. Experience includes: assumes full administrative and professional responsibility for planning and directing the radiologic technology program at a medical center and has significant supervisory responsibility for staff. The candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*): a. Ability to develop and initiate new imaging services that apply current research findings; b. Ability to participate as an instructor in the facility's in-service clinical training findings; c. Skill to interview and evaluate candidates for positions in the section and recommend appointments, advancements, or, when appropriate, disciplinary actions; d. Ability to evaluate performance, identify continuing education and training needs, etc.; and e. Ability to analyze organizational, technical, and administrative problems and to develop and implement solutions that result in efficient section operation. f. Skill in participating in organizational facility initiatives, workgroups, and/or committees. g.
