The Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Inspector General is currently looking for an Auditor in the Office of Audits. Join our professional team of auditors, criminal investigators, and inspectors who help support DOE's mission through performance and financial audits, inspections of management issues and administrative allegations, and investigations into alleged violations of law.

- The position is a Drug Testing Designated position and is subject to preemployment and random drug testing.
- Will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.

BASIC REQUIREMENT:
In accordance with OPM's Individual Occupational Requirements for the GS-0511 series, applicants must meet the following basic requirement:
Degree: accounting, auditing; or a degree including auditing courses in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law.
-OR-
Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law;
A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; -OR-
Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph 1 above, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph 1 above; -AND- (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.
In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement as described above, applicants must possess the following specialized experience:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
GS-13: Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as the following: 1) Assisting with planning, organizing, and conducting complex Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) audits of organizations or programs having diverse financial responsibilities involving specialized accounting systems, such as subordinate, subsidiary, and affiliate accounting systems; 2) Applying professional knowledge of accounting and auditing theories, concepts, practices, and techniques to advise on and resolve a variety of accounting and auditing problems; 3) Participating in performing detailed testing and examinations of contractor specific cost representations, accounting systems and records, internal controls policies and practices, and other management information pertinent to an audit; 4) Coordinating and collaborating with team members on a variety of audit activities, reviewing and consolidating audit findings, and producing detailed audit reports; 5) Justifying critical audit findings and recommendations for improving efficiency and effectiveness of organizational programs where potentially controversial recommendations are required.

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENT: Any individual who is currently holding, or has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet time-in-grade requirements (must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent in the Federal service). Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal civilian employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

There is no substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience at the GS-13 level.
