About the Position: Serves as Chief, Engineering Resources Branch,Research and Engineering Division, Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL), Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC). This position is being filled as a Supervisory Research Interdisciplinary DB-04 (GS-12/14), which may be filled under any of the listed Job Family series. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Serves as Chief of the Engineering Resources Branch. Plans strategically to support and develop work in polar engineering, materials science, infrastructure, mobility, robotics, pavements, and soils. Coordinates efforts across laboratory, with laboratory leadership, and in alignment with the laboratory mission. Manages operations and personnel within the Engineering Resources Branch. Engages customers throughout work execution process, including negotiation of project terms. Transfers research technology to customers/practitioners to deliver products, software, and data, as appropriate. Performs training and mentorship to scientists, engineers, and support staff within the Engineering Resources Branch.

Requirements

• Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
• Appointment requires a one year supervisory probationary period unless previously completed.

Making presentations to senior decisions makers. Developing and implementing strategic plans for research facilities. Securing research funding. This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project at the DB-5 (equivalent to GS-15). In accordance with the Federal Register Vol. 63, No. 57, dated March 25, 1998, an employee of the Laboratory Demonstration project must have a current average performance score of 2.5 or above in order to be selected for promotion.
