About the Position: This position is located at the Rock Island Arsenal Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center (RIA-JMTC).
Duties
Prepare a wide variety of fabricated and supply items for paint by removing paint, grease, oil etc.
Mix coating materials according to specific direction.
Use a variety of methods/equipment to apply primer, topcoat and identification markers as specified by military standards.
Protect areas not to be coated by covering with masking aids.
Operate and maintains all painting equipment.
Comply with all safety rules and regulations to prevent damage to equipment and injury to self and others.
Perform in-house inspection of material painted.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- May require a pre-employment and annual physical examination.
Qualifications
Term Appointment NTE - Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 13 months. Term appointments may be extended beyond of six(6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Painter without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet the screen-out element to be considered further. The work of the position normally includes: painting work assignments using common and accepted trade practices, methods, and techniques for painting application; preparing surfaces by sanding, scraping, and using special hand tools to ensure primed and ready for painting; and applying pre-mixed coating materials to various surfaces using brushes, rollers, sprayers, etc. to apply basic finishing techniques. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Efforts: Moderate to heavy physical exertion is required where surfaces to be coated are in cramped and hard to reach places. This requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up material and equipment that weighs up to 50 pounds. Occasionally handles materials and equipment that weighs 50 pounds and over using hoists or cranes.
Working Conditions: Work is normally performed in a spray booth, but also in a wash rack, blast house, where the incumbent is subject to inhalation of fumes from chemicals, dust and paints. Incumbent is often required to wear a full air supply suit with headgear, which may be cumbersome and uncomfortable. Is exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises, and is subject to injury by falling from the larger ordnance equipment.
