About the Position: This position is located with Directorate of Morale, Welfare, & Recreation, Army Community Services Division at Fort Riley, Kansas.

Duties

Plan, develop, and disseminate Family Advocacy Program (FAP) information to units, families and individuals according to regulation and needs. Participate in conferences and training to keep abreast of new developments and information. Assess the needs of the community and individual families by collecting information regarding Family Advocacy Program (FAP). Analyze data and report the results to determine success of the program and suggest possible changes for better results. Update presentations reflecting new data, and trends on a yearly basis. Provide input regarding Family Advocacy Program (FAP) budget for manpower, supplies, equipment, and other expenditures required. Conduct staff assistance to commanders, units and child care givers regarding Family Advocacy Program (FAP) through fact sheets, informational papers, briefings, and training. Conduct child care facilities inspections on a yearly basis. Conduct home visits and school visits to provide Family Advocacy Program (FAP) education and services. Collaborate with local resources and community agencies to provide Family Advocacy Program (FAP) services and education to clients. Use child development theories and latest research on child development to educate and make referrals.

Basic Requirement for Family Advocacy Program Specialist: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as Social Work, Psychology, Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling, Behavioral Science or Counseling, Education, Community Health, or Public Health. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. AND In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Developing policy, guidance, and regulatory standards for family advocacy services; (2) Developing training programs to provide information and guidance regarding program procedures; (3) Evaluating the effectiveness of family advocacy programs; AND/OR (4) Experience working with family and children's services or community organizations dealing with family violence. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Social Work, Psychology, Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling, Behavioral Science or Counseling, Education, Community Health, or Public Health. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Oral CommunicationPlanning and EvaluatingTechnical CompetenceWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
