Duties

The selectee will serve as an IT Cybersecurity Specialist (DEV/DTA) in the Software Solutions Division, Office of the Chief Information Officer. Typical work assignments include: Developing, creating, maintaining, and writing/coding (new or modifying existing) computer applications, software, or specialized utility programs. Analyzing the security of new or existing computer applications, software, or specialized utility programs, provides actionable results. Administering databases and/or data management systems that allow for the secure storage, query, protection, utilization of data. Examining data from multiple disparate sources with the goal of providing security and privacy insight. Designing and implementing custom algorithms, workflow processes, and layouts for complex, enterprise-scale data sets used for modeling, data mining, and research purposes.

Pathways Recent Graduate Eligibility:Recent Graduates must have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associate's, bachelor's, master's, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution. --OR--As a veteran (as defined in 5 USC 2108), who, due to military service obligations, were precluded from applying to the Program during the two-year eligibility period described above. These individuals have a full two-year period of eligibility upon their release or discharge from active duty. In no event, however, may this eligibility period extend beyond six years from the date on which the individual completed their academic requirements. Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic Requirements of this position through experience OR education as outlined below. A. Experience. Possess IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: 1. Attention to Detail: Analyzing requests for software development; 2. Customer Service: Ensures the security of customer data and systems; 3. Oral Communication: Provides input regarding the security of databases; and 4. Problem Solving: Documents fixes needed to software applications. AND Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-09 level (starting salary $68,405.00) if you possess one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties: Gathering system requirements from customers to provide software solutions; Assisting in the writing, reviewing and/or editing of program control documents; and Supporting efforts to ensure the integrity and security of databases. Education: Masters or equivalent graduate degree, or two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks from an accredited college or university.
