This position is located in DHS/U.S. Coast Guard, Commandant, Vice Commandant (CG-09), Deputy Comdt for Operations (CG-DCO), National Maritime Center, Mariner Evaluation Division, in Martinsburg, WV.
Duties
This position is located in the Mariner Evaluation Division, Professional Qualification Evaluation Branch of the Coast Guard’s National Maritime Center (NMC). NMC is theimplementation body of the Mariner Credentialing Program (MCP) and receives and processes applications for U.S. Merchant Mariner Credentials (MMC’s). This Program’s mission has significant national impact on vessel operations. In the merchant mariner evaluation role, the position provides qualification evaluations and determines applicant eligibility for vessel operation credentials. The position plays a key role reviewing merchant mariner applications to ensure regulatory requirements are verified and insufficient requirements are identified and relayed to applicants.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- A one-year probationary period may be required.
Qualifications
At the GS-7 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the federal service.
Specialized experience is the experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include:
Specialized knowledge of guidelines and regulations, Policy Letters, NVIC’s, international treaties , CG and NMC policies associated with Merchant Mariner Credentialling.
Ability to apply specialized knowledge regarding merchant mariner credentialling and determine eligibility of national and STCW renewal endorsements.
AT THE GS-08 level: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal Service.
