This position is located in Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, Prevention Policy Directorate, National Maritime Center, Regional Examination Center (REC) Ops and Oversight Division, Martinsburg, WV.
Duties
As the Supervisory Legal Instruments Examiner, you will serve as a technical expert in the administration of the statutory and regulatory provisions and controls for the merchant mariner credentialing program, and the issuance of Merchant Mariner Credentials (MMC) and Medical Certificates (MC), as well as endorsement certificates required by the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) for seafares. The incumbent also provides advisory services in the development of policies; interpretation and implementation of existing laws, regulations and policies relating to the Coast Guard's Mariner Credentialing Program (MCP) program.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- A one-year probationary period may be required.
- The position requires a valid state driver's license.
Qualifications
At the GS-11 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the federal service.
Specialized experience is the experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include:
Sound technical knowledge and seasoned judgment in administering regulations, program policies, and procedure and excellent written and oral communication skills.
Experience developing training programs tailored to the needs of staff members
Ability to prepare and review military and business style letters in a professional manner.
