About the Position: This position is with The Chemical Biological Center (CBC).The Chemical Biological Center (CBC) is participating in an alternative personnel system known as the Laboratory Personnel Demonstration Project (DEMO).
The pay band DB-04 is equal to the former GS-14 step 01 through GS-15 step 10.

Duties
Serve as Branch Chief and technical authority/consultant responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the work of technical personnel engaged in conducting research investigations/studies in support of the Molecular Toxicology Program.
Develop innovative scientific methodologies to identify and explore promising areas of research in molecular toxicology.
Manage and support highly complex, state of the art projects that are critical to key Army research and development programs.
Establish priorities, objectives and advise on technical and administrative matters.
Supervise a group of professional technical personnel and is responsible for overall planning, administration, and direction of personnel.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position requires a Top Secret security clearance.
- This is a mandatory drug testing position.
- Business travel (TDY) may be required up to 25% of the time.
- The probationary period for demo employees receiving a career conditional appointment in the DB pay band is three years unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- One year supervisory probationary period may be required if not previously served
- Position requires certification in the Chemical Personnel Reliability (CPRP) and/or Biological Personnel Reliability (BPRP), IAQ AR 50-6 and/or AR 50-1 and which requires random drug testing and medical evaluation IAW AR 50-6 and/or AR 50-1.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Biologist (0401 series):
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Basic Requirement for Supervisory Toxicologist (0415 series):
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in toxicology; or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology.
Basic Requirement for Supervisory Chemistry (1320 series):
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Course work equivalent to a major in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Planning the work and strategic direction of a diverse group of professional scientists, engineers and technical personnel engaged in conducting research investigations/studies in support of the Chemical Biological Defense (CBD) Program; (2) Conducting research investigations and/or studies in support of molecular toxicology research projects; (3) Identifying new scientific directions to address gaps in chemical and biological research. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13/DB-03).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
