About the Position: : Incumbent works in the Department of Distance Education (DDE) and independently performs of a variety of administrative and student support duties. - Moving expenses are NOT authorized, based on a determination that a move is not in the Government's interest. - Recruitment, relocation and/or retention incentives are NOT being offered for this position.

Duties

As an Educational Technician (OA), you will perform the following duties which is not an all-inclusive list: Use basic and advanced program functions to download, update, revise, sort, calculate, and manipulate data to identify student needs. Respond to and resolves questions or problems identified through research and fact gathering of student information within the applicable automated systems Maintain and update student records, enrolls students in appropriate courses, and verifies student rosters from TASS (Total Army School System) courses. Responsible for developing and analyzing course attendance data used for course rosters. Track students successful or unsuccessful completion of courses and notify registrar upon course completion. Respond to email and phone requests for information on degree requirements. Confirm graduation requirements in the applicable database. Prepare a variety of official documents to include Requests for Action, document register, student response letters and correspondence. Utilize multiple databases to research and analyze distance learning programs, develop surveys, run scheduled reports and perform limited statistical functions.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Tier 1 Background check throughout the duration of employment.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position may require temporary duty (TDY) for business up to 5% of the time.
  • This position requires the services of a qualified typist.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes researching and resolving academic-related inquiries; analyzing data on education needs; and using automated systems to manage student records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). -OR- Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Education, Human Resources Administration, Business, etc. (NOTE: You MUST submit copies of ALL your transcripts if qualifying based on education substitution.) -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. (NOTE: You MUST submit copies of ALL your transcripts if qualifying based on education substitution.) Typing Proficiency: This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06). NOTE: Applicants must meet all Time-in-Grade requirements and experience requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Current employees applying under VEOA are subject to time-in-grade restrictions like any other GS employee.
