The Medical Administration Officer position is located in the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center and provides administrative support to all Clinical Care Lines and Service Lines within the Shreveport VA Health System. The incumbent will have responsibility for the administrative management of a major sub-division that provides effective support for the clinical services of a health care delivery system.
Duties
Serves as an integral part of the management team of the health care system
Oversees a complex, comprehensive patient administrative management program that provides services and technical counsel to meet all legal, procedural, and administrative requirements
Provides support for major program areas that consists of Health Information Management, Release of Information, In/Outpatient Coding, Business Office, Benefits and Eligibility, Ambulatory Care, Veteran Travel System, Administrative Outpatient Services, Emergency Medical Technicians, and after hour Administrative Officers of the Day
Analyzes effective use of personnel costs and allocates manpower resources to meet workload demands and clinical service requirements
Oversees budget and submits requirements for the distribution/redistribution of resources
Exercises direct supervisory control and management authority for day-to-day operations of the Health Administration Service
Serves on facility committees and manages on-site meetings
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm; Subject to change based on the needs of the service.
Compressed/Flexible: Will be discussed with management.
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/29/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-13 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-12. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-12 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: 1) Applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to conduct studies concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of program operations carried out by administrative or professional personnel; 2) Managing human resources and organizational performance analysis, labor management, clinical data collection/documentation, compliance inspections, customer service, and funds control; and 3) Developing and administering comprehensive management programs, objectives, and plans vital to the mission.

Physical Requirements: Work is sedentary in nature and performed in an office setting with occasional moving/lifting of files. Requires some travel to Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).
