This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Asheville VA Medical Center (VAMC), assigned to the Prosthetics & Sensory Services, and will serve as the first point of contact for customers, both internal and external, that require prosthetics services either face-to-face or by telephone.
Duties
Duties to include, but not limited to:
Dispense off the shelf inventory items to patients and post the items to the patients' 2319 transaction record screen.
Verify eligibility through the prosthetic package before issuing the equipment to the patient (i.e. ensuring a consult for medical equipment has been submitted to the service and proper disability codes are entered into the veterans Prosthetics record).
Reviews "stat" consults submitted to prosthetics and contact the service that submitted to educate on PSAS consult submittal process.
Deliver property to departments when received in PSAS and notate the patient records of the status of the device.
Notify Inventory Managers of items with low amounts prior to running out of items on the shelves.
Mail out stock room orders as required. (i.e. Process consults for medical devices to be mailed from VA inventory to veterans' homes to include, picking, packaging, labeling, providing to mail room and posting to the veteran's medical record)
Send Administrative Prosthetics requests through CPRS to Clinical Prosthetics in order to have patients scheduled in the Orthotic Lab to pick up equipment.
Process 2237 requests for turn-in of devices that are not returnable to companies purchased from.
Performs other duties as assigned.
The incumbent answers the telephone and takes complete messages. Determines nature of requests and directs callers to appropriate staff, or personally provides the information desired when routine or procedural matters of the office are involved. Receives prescriptions from VA providers for medical devices to be issued or handed out directly to the veteran, caregivers, or providers or mailed directly to veterans. Verifies prescription for equipment/appliance has been issued through the prosthetic package before issuing. Posts issued equipment in the patients' prosthetic transaction record for accountability.
Receives, opens, reviews, and distributes by function all incoming property from Logistics/Supply Chain Management Warehouse staff. Determines if the property should be brought to the immediate attention of the supervisor, what should be given to other members of the staff and what needs to be delivered. Determines proper distribution of equipment mailed for Veterans that need to be delivered to the specialty service for issuance to the patient. Incumbent follows up on pending orders utilizing the Prosthetics Vista package to ensure veterans receive timely care. Develops and maintains the file systems for the service.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/29/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-5 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-4. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

Physical Requirements: The work of the incumbent can be sedentary, but requires moving, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing equipment in the property distribution area. There is walking, standing, bending and carrying of items up to 60 lbs. such as equipment and supplies provided to beneficiaries.
